Years 7 to 12
YEARS 7 AND 8
New approaches in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education, digital technology, increased use of specialist secondary staff and the introduction of project-based learning principles are changing the way students and staff are engaging with learning in this section of the school.
Cross-grade collaboration is about learning together, pooling knowledge, putting forward solutions and eventually reaching a learning outcome.
Experimentation is facilitated by group discussions, brainstorming and cross-referencing, testing, journaling and prototyping ideas and eventually finding solutions to challenges.
Entering Year 9 brings the exciting opportunity to participate in elective subjects for the first time.
Our Year 9 is a stepping-stone into the senior years. What our students do in Year 9 matters. RoSA (Record of School Achievement) tracks a student’s grades from Years 9 to 11 in all subjects. Our focus is to equip students with skills to study consistently and conscientiously towards the final outcome of their senior years of schooling.
Our Students in Year 10 continue on this path of specialisation. Our students can continue in the elective subjects they enjoy and excel in or in recognition of their own gifts and abilities re-select their electives.
Students explore the possibility of future career interests in real world.
Examples of past student placements include: vets, mechanics, hairdressers, early childhood centres, carpenters, graphic designers, surveyors, and a variety of hospitality industry roles.
Students consistently return with great enthusiasm for the future and with a sharpened focus on their studies. Grades in all subjects continue to contribute to the student’s Record of School Achievement.
YEARS 11 AND 12
What is College6?
The NSW Board of Studies (NESA) approves the delivery of the HSC programme using a vertical (compressed) model. This model is also called a 3+3 Model or a compressed HSC approach.
It is an approach that is being adopted in an increasing number of government and non-government schools.
Examples of non-government schools following this approach include: Orange Christian School, Nepean Christian School, Richmond Christian School, Mountains Christian School and Nowra Christian School.
Forestville High, Cessnock High, Queanbeyan High, Springwood High, and Lake Munmorah High are a part of this growing trend in NSW, with over 20 government schools adopting a 3+3 approach.
How does College6 work?
Schools delivering the HSC program using the compressed HSC model in any given year must ensure that the Board’s requirements are followed for all students undertaking Preliminary and HSC courses.
A course that is compressed means students complete the full Preliminary course in the first half of the year. Once students have completed the Preliminary work, they spend the rest of the year completing the HSC component and then sit for the HSC examination in that subject in October/November.
Students therefore effectively study and complete half of their HSC courses in the first year of College6 and the remainder in the second year of College6.
We are not compressing English or Mathematics at this point of time.
How do they manage to complete the courses in one year?
Because half the number of courses are undertaken at one time each course is allocated twice the amount of time for study each week than we would usually allocate (equivalent of 12 x 40 minute periods per week rather than the traditional 6 periods).
What are the benefits of College6?
- Year 11 and 12 integrated into one classroom – enabling mentoring and collaboration.
- The compressed courses allows for students to even out the HSC examination pressure over 2 years.

What is the structure of College6?
Students study the traditional Stage 5/Year 10 curriculum for most of the year and complete their RoSA requirements for Year 10 in Week 5 of Term 4.
Compressed courses commence in Week 6 of Term 4. This approach ensures students make the most of the weeks at the end of the year and their attention turns toward senior studies before they go on summer holidays.
Year 11 – Senior Year 1
- Mathematics and
- Two compressed subjects of their own choosing.
Students will sit for their HSC examinations in the two compressed subjects at the end of Senior Year 1.
Year 12 – Senior Year 2
- Mathematics and
- two compressed subjects of their own choosing. The electives will be a new choice.
Students will sit for their HSC examinations in these two compressed subjects and English and Mathematics (plus any extension subjects) at the end of Senior Year 2.
At the end of Senior Year 2, students combine their results or their six subjects and attain the HSC.
