On Wednesday February 20, I had the pleasure of taking 6 students from Stage 5 Visual Arts all the way to the Art Gallery NSW for a study morning.
Our morning began with a lecture that outline the pivotal importance of European Art from the early 20th century. Examples from the Hermitage Museum of this time period are currently on display at the gallery and it was a delight to later view these impressive masterpieces in the ‘flesh’.
Students were also able to take the opportunity to view Bodies of Work from 2018 Visual Arts students which are currently on display in the ArtExpress exhibition. Truely inspirational.
Before jumping on the train to come home, students visited St Mary’s Cathedral where they had the opportunity to view Neo Gothic architectural features and the many Christian symbols displayed inside the cathedral. Photos of these will be used in their artmaking during Semester 1.
