On Wednesday, 12 December our Senior School gathered to celebrate the many achievements of our students. There have been too many achievements, both as a school and by individuals, to list them all here, but the day was certainly a fitting tribute and celebration to the year that has been.
Congratulations goes particular to the following:
- Mikayla dJ – Sportswoman of the Year
- Thomas E-K – Sportsman of the Year
- Sarah F – ADF 2018 Long Tan Leadership and Teamwork award (external award selected by staff)
- Evie H – Junior Sportswoman of the Year
- Emma J – Shellharbour City Council Citizen award
- MacAllister M – Junior Sportsman of the Year
- Jessica S – received a special medal for her achievements in the Premier’s Reading Challenge
It was a time of celebration, but also a bit of fun, with music performance, poetry and puns and even some exercise for Year 8!
At the end of assembly, there was also a formal time of farewells for staff including Mrs Gerritsen, Mr Pratt, Mr Chesher, Mrs Deans, Mr Babbage and Mr Bertram. Cameron B had the job of saying a few words on behalf of the students to Mrs Deans, followed by Lyda F and Tom K-E who shared some fond memories of Mr Bertram.
THE GREAT CALDERWOOD RACE
On the last day of school for 2018, Mrs Gerritsen and other staff arranged for the Great Calderwood Race to occur.
In a similar fashion to ‘The Amazing Race’, students had to win a ribbon at each set station by completing a task. Some of the tasks included: counting a large amount of uncooked pastas, getting a selfie with Mrs Fogerty in the office, melt an ice-brick to release a plastic toy, complete puzzles and memory verses. There was also some physical challenges where the whole group needed to complete the ‘Bring Sally Up Squat Challenge’, try to get a cookie from their forehead into their mouth and try to defy gravity by keeping a balloon off the ground (which is a lot harder than you think!).
All students had a fantastic time throughout the day, which also had the staff cook a BBQ lunch for everyone and a jumping castle/slide.
Mrs Royters sends her gratitude to the students who helped set up the new clothesline – just in time to get the washing done for the year.
Thank you to all the staff and students who worked hard to put this great day together!
