On Wednesday, 24 October, Year 10 and four students from Year 11 attended the University of Technology in Sydney.
The students participated in an outreach program with Science and Mathematics workshops. The first workshop was on Forensics and the second Microbiology. Students were able to see first hand the workings of a laboratory and participated in fun and engaging experiments.
In the Forensic workshop students learnt about how to collect information from a crime scene, take fingerprints (taking their own) and analyse blood splatter with different possible scenarios.
The Microbiology workshop saw students analyse first hand a urine sample, and commonly used gram staining method to classify bacteria based on different membrane properties. Students also listened to talks about the research being undertaken by one of the PhD students and courses offered by UTS.
Mrs Bartley and Mr Hann would like to thank students for their enthusiasm when participating in the workshops and and cooperation throughout the day.
