Blog Post: Term 3, Week 9, 2018
This is the final week of Term 3 and more significantly, the final week of school for our Year 12 students. At the graduation assembly, I reminded our Year 12 students of the words of Ecclesiastes chapter 3 verse 1, “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens”.
As this year comes to a close, so does a season for our Year 12 students. Their HSC examinations are yet to be written, however, their formal schooling is complete. We celebrate with Year 12 and thank them for their contribution to our school, which for some has been over many years. Of the seventeen who are graduating, eight began in Kindergarten and fourteen of our families have graduated from Calderwood this week.
The message of Ecclesiastes is that life not centred on God is purposeless and meaningless. Without him, nothing else can satisfy (2:25). With him, all of life and His other good gifts, are to be greatly received and used being enjoyed to the full!
This is a message for all of us. I encourage us all, not just Year 12, to make Jesus pre-eminent in our lives and to remember that the beginning of wisdom is the fear of the Lord.
As we look forward now, may we reflect on our lives, our purpose and reason for being. Life with God is certainly not meaningless as serving in His kingdom brings pure joy and contentment.
May I wish all our students a refreshing break and to our Year 12 students, may you use your time wisely so that you can give a good account of yourselves in your examinations. May you realise your dreams, which I pray have been imagined in terms of your relationship to God and your desire to please Him in all things.
